Art I
"I dream my painting, and then I paint my dream." -Vincent Van Gogh
11/28/2016 0 Comments Collage PortraitWe have been working on collage portraits as well as pop art portraits. I found pictures in magazines of flowers to decorate the top of my portrait and I am still piecing together the skin. I am going to make the skin get darker and fade to black around the shoulders and bottom of the picture, and then cut out roots in the black color.

11/28/2016 0 Comments Pop Art ProgressThis is the progress I have made on my pop art piece. I am almost finished painting the background, but I need to decide on colors for the pop art icons. Next I will finish that and then start on mixing a skin color.
11/18/2016 0 Comments Pop Art ProgressThis is the progress of my Pop Art project. We are drawing selfies of ourselves in Pop Art style. I started by sketching out the outline while looking at my picture, and then outlining it in Sharpie. I am adding mouths, Popsicles, donuts, shoes and any other pop art and cartoon emoticons in the background before I paint.
11/15/2016 0 Comments Parts of The FaceIn this exercise we drew a whole page of different parts of the face to practice. We started with eyes, looking at a sheet covering with drawings of eyes for reference. Next we drew noses, learning about the shape and the different shadows on that area of the face. Next we drew mouths, getting used to the shapes of the lips and the creases and shadows they make when expressing different emotions.
11/10/2016 0 Comments Contour ExercisesToday we did some contour exercises, looking into a mirror while drawing our reflections on blank pieces of paper, without lifting the pencil from the page. The picture on the left was drawn without looking at the paper at all, only at the mirror. And the picture on the right was drawn looking at both the mirror and the paper.
11/3/2016 1 Comment Finished Boundary PieceToday was the last day of working on the boundary pieces, and I think I finally finished mine! I added the metallic copper colored dots in the background and on the yellow rays, as well as adding touch on the arms, the helping hand, and the running girl. I was going for more of a starry effect with the dots in the background and while it didn't turn out exactly as I pictured, I am happy with it. I wish I had added more pinks and purples to the background, but the blues, greens, and reds helped with the conflicted emotions I was trying to express.
It's kind of hard for me to say that I am done with this because I always feel like I could work on these projects forever before it's perfect. But I'm happy with how it turned out and I can't wait for the next project! 11/3/2016 0 Comments Series of CompositionsIn this project, I started out by being given an object to hold. My eyes were closed as I felt the object and tried to picture it in my head. This is the object I was holding. Next the object was taken away from me without me looking at it, and I drew what I thought the object looked like with a pencil on a piece of cardstock. Then I created a second drawing based off the first one, flipped over the first one and made a drawing based on the second one, and continued this pattern until I had six drawings. After the second drawing I was able to look at my object rather than simply feel it, so I had an idea of what my drawings should be based off of. Then I got a fresh piece of paper, picked a medium of my choice, with was watercolor, and constructed a new painting. This painting reflected on all of the previous drawings and touched on my feelings about the subject and the meaning that drawing had to me. Since my object was a cricket/grasshopper, as I was drawing I began to think about how small crickets are. But just because they are small does not mean that they cannot make noise, or that they are unimportant. Many of us may feel small as well, but we all have a purpose and a voice in this world, and I don't think we should be afraid of that. Even if it feels like nobody is listening and we're just talking to empty space, what we have to say is important. Small things matter!
